I just attended a 4-day emotional intelligence workshop and my biggest takeaway was feeling empowered to challenge authority with the raw vulnerability of my truth.
“Sabastian, I’d like to give you some feedback.”
My hand shook as I gripped the microphone and told a room of 90 strangers and the workshop facilitator that I'm transgender.
I told them that I had firsthand knowledge that his strict gender ideology was not only alienating me directly, but was also limiting the other attendees by enforcing his archaic ideas of gender roles upon them.
He stepped close to me, and we looked at one another deeply in the eyes. He sensed my pain and my anger, and after a quick exchange, his eyes glinted. “I’m going to be an asshole to you, okay?”
“Does that serve you? And me?” My jaw tightened.
“It will,” he countered. “Because I understand what you’re trying to tell me, but I can’t follow you because you’re using lots of words and you’re being indirect. Do you agree that your viewpoint is just one stripe on the beach-ball of the whole truth?”
“Yes, but so is yours,” I said.
“What’s your truth, then? Be direct.”
“That there is no such thing as a man and a woman.”
“See, I can’t follow you. And these people don’t know what you’re talking about. Your pain is clouding your communication, and I have to tell you I don’t believe you, because my truth is that men have penises.”
I laughed, hollow and humorless.
“Do you believe this absolutely? That there's no such thing as a man and a woman?” Sabastian pressed.
“Then your pain around this is holding you back. Because ultimately, you want us all to be included, so that everyone in this room can see where you’re coming from. And the real truth that we are all human beings, and that’s where we need to meet one another. You get me?”
I handed back the mic and sat down feeling triumphant and dazed. A tiny part of me felt as if I’d “lost”, but I knew that what I knew from my life experience and my feminist studies took more than a two minute conversation to impart. I also knew that I would have another opportunity to challenge Sabastian, and I did. The next step was clear to me.
The next day, I stripped completely naked in front of 90 strangers in order to show them what I couldn't communicate with words. That it doesn't matter what comprises our bodies: we are all human, beautiful, and powerful.
By speaking and acting only from my raw personal truth, I affected change, growth, and transformation. I affirmed my power as a human being in the face of authority and the status quo.
I want to invite you into this power I experienced.
I will be taking only 20 people through a new coaching process I designed together with my wife at Awakened Joy that empowered me to overcome lifelong fears and years of negative self-talk.
The program is designed for you to declare a goal you have had and, for whatever reasons, have not been able to achieve. Together we'll identify the obstacles, equip you to remove them, and celebrate with you as you achieve that goal you have always wanted!
The six-week journey to transform your life will cost $997. However, if you’re one of the twenty who registers before June 2nd at 5pm, you will receive this experience for only $499.
That's a 50% discount.
In return for the discount, I am only asking you to share a testimony of your success and refer three of your friends after our coaching. After June 2nd, the cost will be $997 and this discount will never be available again.
